Jazmine Sullivan

JazmineJazmine was born and lived at home in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Pam is Jazmine's mom, and is a former backing singer with Philadelphia International Records. At the age of five the father of her was chosen as the city's Historic Strawberry Mansion curator. She and her family moved later into this historic building. In 2005 she graduated from the Philadelphia High School for the Creative and Performing Arts as singer-music major. Sullivan began singing in the children's chorus as a contralto, later she joined the adult choir just a couple of years further on. Sullivan was not exposed to secular music. The singer recalls that she was singing as a soloist at church when someone offered to sign her up with a gospel label. She wasn't ready for the mission. In the following year, McDonald's held a contest for kids in big cities. I had the opportunity to sing "Accept The Grace God Gives" on it's Showtime at the Apollo. And the crowd responded very well. Stevie Wonder sang her part for her son's 13th birthday celebration. Sullivan had signed her first contract to Jive Records when she was fifteen. Sullivan was initially signed by Jive Records at the age 15. She recorded an entire album but this album didn't get released. Sullivan was eventually dropped from the label. She maintained a working relationship with Missy Elliott, who produced some of the songs from her debut, which included the hit single "Backstabbers" composed by Timbaland and composed by Elliott.
